The link structure of the Web serves to bind together all of the pages that have been made public as a result of someone linking to them. Through links, search engines’ automated robots, called crawlers or spiders, can reach the many billions of interconnected documents. Search engines use the notion of citation index to evaluate the number and quality of inbound links to a site. Citation index is a numeric estimate of the popularity of a resource expressed as an absolute value representing page importance. Each search engine uses its own algorithms to estimate a page citation index. As a rule, these values are not published. Functionally, growth hacking means exploiting search engine weakness — not human weakness — but philosophically it means identifying advancement and revenue opportunities quickly. Are internal links as valuable as external links? Google's Panda algorithm has been around for about four years. And while most SEOs have already understood that it deals with content value and quality, they often overlook technical issues that might cause a decrease in rankings.
One thing you should not forget – there is no static SEO system that is going to stay forever as “SEO is a never-ending process.” With changing online customer behaviour, search engines, too, have developed different policies. Links are still incredibly important, even in this day and age. Anyone is looking for high-value links from relevant sites in their industry. If you uncover duplicate content, check the organic traffic for each of your product page variations in Google Analytics. Google now supports using the rel=“canonical” link element across different domains. This means that you can have similar content on both the .com and .co.uk extensions of your site, and use the canonical link element to indicate the exact URL of the domain preferred for indexing. This will make duplicate content a non-issue. Also, keep in mind that this is not required when using different languages. Google does not consider foreign-language translations to be duplicate content. But it is something to consider for multiple locale sites in the same language. By using internal linking strategically, you can boost the ranking of other pages on your website. Say you have a popular page that is ranking highly in Google and receiving a lot of traffic. By strategically placing a link on that page to another on your site that you want to rank, you can pass “authority” to that page.
